What is "Rental Ready"?

What is “Rental Ready”? Well, for me it’s making sure the fridge has Pellegrino and bottled “still” water (with a lime, thank you), the pantry has herbal tea and Starbucks, and my kitchen has the correct combination of organic items. See, for me, I’m talking about “Pa- Rental Ready”. Yes folks, the holidays are upon us, and god bless me, my parents will be at my house for four days over Thanksgiving. I ordered my fresh, all natural never-been-frozen turkeys weeks ago from Wild Oats. My husband will deep fry one outside, and I’ll do my “Martha Stewart” best to prepare the other one in some more traditional fashion (this year I’ve selected the Maple-Glazed Turkey from her 2006 holiday menu). The guest bedrooms have fresh sheets, the guest bathroom is stocked with plenty of clean towels. I’ve dusted, touched up, and in some cases scrubbed. The carpets have been professionally cleaned, and not a stitch of anything is out of place (well at least the parts of the house that our dog hasn’t gotten to yet). No, it’s not as bad as it sounds, but I do want everything to be just right for their arrival.

This week, and throughout the winter season, is when the Wise Property Management staff (click here to meet them) is also busy at work preparing rentals for arrivals, in other words, making your home “Rental Ready”. While we don’t check for fancy sparkling water, we do perform such tasks as: 1. checking light bulbs; 2. turning on the outside light, and one interior light; 3. turning the heat up to 68 degrees; 4. check all appliances and electronics and ensure they work properly; 5. check that the housekeeping is satisfactory and perform any last minute maintenance tasks; 6. ensure that there is adequate firewood.

You see, we strive to make each guest feel welcome and take every step possible to ensure they have a comfortable stay while in the Killington area. We like to put ourselves in the guests’ shoes… we think it would be nice to arrive to a well lit, warm, and above all, clean house after a long drive. We think it would be super convenient to be able to turn the TV on without becoming an expert in remote control compatibility, and we think making a fire is a lot easier if there’s plenty of wood. So we take great measures to perform these tasks on each arrival, in each property.

I’d like to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving, and please wish me luck! Oh, did I mention that my sister, my mother-in-law, 3 nieces/nephew under the age of 8, and my bother-in-law & sister-in-law will also be at our house for Thanksgiving! Good thing there’s some Veuve Cliquot left over from our wedding so the mimosa’s will be up to Pa-Rental standards as well!
