It was all hands on deck for the Friday of the President's Weekend holiday. Not only were we completely booked, but as all of you know, Killington had just received a healthy 3+ foot dumping of the white stuff. In classic catch-22 fashion, we were busily about keeping tabs on plowing, sanding, and shoveling. The phones were ringing off the hook on a day that promised to be controlled chaos. But the Wise team got the job done. Every job. And so it was later on Friday afternoon when I seriously began to regret my wardrobe selection for the day- my choice of wool slacks, leather boots, and a silk sweater would prove impractical as the day wore on.
While most of you employ Wise in a full service capacity, relying on us to handle not only bookings, but also services, there are a few homeowners that choose to arrange their own services through their own vendors. But what happens when your vendors won't plow or clean your property because there's too much snow? Yes, that's right- too much snow. When is there ever “too much” snow in Vermont? Well that exact scenario occurred on the Friday of quite possibly the busiest day of the season. So what happened? Did the owner lose the rental? Did the renter get upset because they suddenly had no rental? Of course not.
By 4pm, Jen and I were out at one of our remotely located properties shoveling out the plowing vendor Wise recruited whose vehicle briefly got stuck in the snow that hadn’t been removed since the blizzard began. It relentlessly made its way through the 3 + feet of snow to plow out a driveway that most Vermonters swore would have required a bucket loader. Then we shoveled our way up the walkway (ok we didn't do the whole thing ourselves, the plow guy helped us). Then we hauled our linens and cleaning supplies into the home and the two of us were little worker bees until the job was complete. And all before the renters arrived.
No, this is not the first time that I, or any of our Wise Team has cleaned a property at the last minute (nor was it the only time during the holiday week), but it certainly is another good example of why it helps to have us working on your behalf. We have access to the vendors and we have the dedicated staff. In addition to shoveling and cleaning, the office remained open past normal business hours practically every evening over the course of the holiday as staff members tirelessly worked to accommodate and help our guests. The feedback we received was tremendously positive. All in all, it was an extremely successful week!
